Fasteners for Solar Panels: Where Do They Come From?

At OptimaSolar, we only use high-quality, certified mounting materials from trusted Dutch manufacturers.

  • For pitched roofs, we work with the ClickFit Evo system by Esdec, known for its durability and ease of installation.
  • For flat roofs, we use mounting systems from Van der Valk Solar Systems, another reliable Dutch brand.

Mounting Solar Panels on Pitched Roofs with Roof Tiles

The most common roofing type in the Netherlands is the tile roof. Mounting solar panels on these roofs is straightforward, thanks to the use of an adjustable roof hook, which is placed behind the tile batten. The installation process involves:

  • Roof or screw hooks for securing the system to the structure
  • Mounting rails that click onto the hooks
  • Module clamps to fasten the panels
  • End caps for a clean and professional finish

This combination ensures a secure and aesthetic installation that can withstand Dutch weather conditions.

Mounting Solar Panels on Sloped Roofs: Corrugated Sheets

Corrugated sheet roofs are also well-suited for solar panel installations. This is because the roof structurenot the corrugated sheets themselves — supports the weight of the panels.
There are two common ways to fasten solar panels to the roof structure: hanger bolts or mounting brackets. Each option has its own advantages and disadvantages. You can read more about them here!

Mounting solar panels on corrugated sheet roofs involves: Hanger bolts or mounting brackets, mounting rails, module clamps, and end caps.

Mounting Solar Panels on Sloped Roofs: Steel

Steel roofs include trapezoidal and corrugated steel types. For these roofs, we use mounting profiles, which are available for both portrait and landscape panel layouts.
Module clamps snap onto the profiles and are then secured with screws. End caps provide a clean and finished appearance.

For other types of steel roofs, we use hanger screws (also known as stick screws), which replace the original roof screws and are fully sealed. Rails are then attached using a click system. Panels are secured using module clamps, and end caps complete the system.

Mounting solar panels on steel roofs involves: Hanger bolts or mounting profiles, mounting rails, module clamps, and end caps.

Solar Fasteners for Pitched Roofs: EPDM and Bitumen

EPDM and bitumen roofs are also well-suited for solar panel installations. Using fully pre-assembled hanger bolts, the mounting frame is attached directly to the roof structure. As with other systems, mounting rails are then fixed to the hanger bolts, the solar modules are secured using module clamps, and end caps ensure a neat, finished appearance.

Mounting solar panels on EPDM or bitumen pitched roofs involves: Hanger bolts, mounting rails, module clamps, and end caps.

Mounting Materials for Solar Panels on Flat Roofs: Bitumen, PVC, or EPDM

Bitumen is the most common roofing material for flat roofs. The panels are mounted using roof racks, which are placed directly on the roof surface. Each roof rack rests on several tile supports, and the panels are secured using foot brackets attached to the racks. On top of the roof racks, ballast trays are installed to hold ballast, ensuring the system is protected against strong winds.

The containers in which the panels are mounted are finished with back and side plates. These help reduce wind impact, prevent birds from nesting, and give the system a clean look.

When mounting on PVC or EPDM flat roofs, there is just one key difference: the tile supports are equipped with an extra protective carpet pad to prevent damage to the roofing material.

Black Solar Panel Mounting Hardware

Manufacturers understand that aesthetics matter to many homeowners when it comes to solar panel installations. That’s why many mounting systems are available with black components for a sleek and uniform look.

For pitched roofs, we can equip your entire mounting system with black hardware. For flat roof systems, black back plates, side plates, and caps for the foot supports are available. This ensures your installation looks as clean and modern as it is functional.
