Types of Solar Panels from OptimaSolar

At OptimaSolar, we only work with Tier 1 manufacturers to ensure top-quality performance and reliability. The solar panel brands we use include Longi Solar, Jinko Solar, DMEGC Solar, JA Solar, and Luxor Solar. Currently, the most commonly used panels have a capacity of 410 to 445 Wp. These panels typically measure 1762 mm in length, 1134 mm in width, and 30 mm in thickness.

Our selection includes:

  • Full black panels
  • Black-white panels
  • Glass-glass panels
  • Bifacial panels

Solar Panel Installations: Series vs. Parallel

Solar panel systems can be installed on your roof in three main ways: in series, in parallel, or using micro-inverters.

1. Series Connection (String System)

In a series connection, the solar panels are linked one after the other to form a single string — a continuous electrical circuit. This is the most traditional and commonly used setup. The energy generated by the string is sent to a single central inverter. However, one drawback of a series system is that the performance of the entire string can be affected by the weakest panel — for example, if one panel is shaded or dirty.

2. Parallel Connection with Optimizers

In a parallel system, each solar panel is equipped with its own power optimizer. This ensures that each panel operates independently, so shading, dirt, or a fault in one panel doesn’t reduce the performance of the others. This setup allows for more consistent output and is especially beneficial for roofs with varying sun exposure. OptimaSolar uses SolarEdge inverters and optimizers for these high-performance parallel systems.

Central Inverter vs. Micro-Inverters

There’s no such thing as a solar panel system without an inverter — it’s an essential component. Solar panels generate direct current (DC), but your home uses alternating current (AC). That’s where the inverter comes in: it converts the energy into usable power for your household.

In most traditional systems, a central inverter is installed inside the home — often in the attic or garage. This inverter collects the energy from all the panels (typically connected in series or with optimizers) and converts it into AC power. While reliable and efficient, the system’s performance can be affected if one panel underperforms due to shade, dirt, or damage.

Prefer not to have a large inverter indoors? Then micro-inverters are a great alternative. Each panel has its own small inverter installed underneath it. This setup comes with several advantages:

  • No need for a central inverter inside your home — saving space.
  • The system functions in parallel, so if one micro-inverter fails or a panel is shaded, the rest continue working efficiently.
  • Better performance in varied conditions (like partial shading or different panel orientations).

Micro-inverters offer more flexibility and consistent output, especially for complex roof layouts or environments with some shade.

Mounting Frames for Flat and Pitched Roofs

Mounting systems come in all shapes, sizes, and materials — and choosing the right one is essential for a safe and long-lasting solar installation. As an experienced solar panel installer, OptimaSolar relies on trusted Dutch brands for its mounting solutions.

  • Flat Roofs & Ground Installations
For flat roofs or ground-mounted systems, we use Van der Valk Solar Systems. These robust frames come with a 10-year warranty and are designed for stability and durability in all weather conditions.

  • Pitched Roofs
For pitched roofs, we work with Esdec, specifically the ClickFit® EVO series. This mounting system is known for its ease of installation and long lifespan, backed by a 20-year warranty.

Every roof is different — but thanks to our years of experience, we always find the best solution for your solar panel mounting system.

Mounting Frame for Sloping Roofs

On sloped (pitched) roofs, solar panels are securely mounted using a combination of specialized components:

  • Roof or truss hooksThese are fastened behind the tile battens (lathing) to provide a solid anchor point.

  • Mounting railsAttached to the hooks, these form the base structure for the panels.

  • Module clampsUsed to secure the solar panels to the rails.

  • End capsProvide a clean finish and extra protection.

In situations where it’s not possible to fix hooks behind the battens, we use tension hooks, which are screwed directly into the roof structure for a strong and stable alternative. This method ensures your solar installation is both safe and built to last, even on more challenging roof types.

Mounting Frame for Flat Roofs

OptimaSolar installs flat roof systems using high-quality mounting frames from the Dutch brand Van der Valk Solar Systems. The panels are mounted on roof racks, which are placed directly on the roof. Each rack rests on several tile supports that distribute the weight evenly. The panels are secured with foot supports attached to the roof racks. To ensure stability, ballast racks are placed on the structure, where ballast (such as concrete blocks) is added to protect the system against strong winds.

For a clean and durable finish, the panel containers are enclosed with back and side plates. These help reduce wind resistance, prevent birds from nesting inside the frame, and give the entire setup a sleek, finished appearance.

Safe Solar Panel Installation

Installing solar panels involves more than many people realize — and safety is a top priority. It’s essential that the working environment for installers is properly secured to prevent accidents. Unfortunately, we sometimes see news reports of things going wrong during solar panel installations. That’s why OptimaSolar always works according to strict safety protocols. For roof work, we use: RSS fall protectiona sturdy safety cage mounted under the gutter that fully supports the wall, scaffolding and safety harnesses. These measures help ensure that our team can work safely at height, protecting both our installers and your property. Safety first — always.

Electrical Safety and Solar Panels

Electrical safety is a critical part of any solar panel installation. Using the correct cables and components — especially in the meter boxis essential to ensure long-term safety and compliance. The electrician working on your system must ensure that the meter box meets all current safety standards, specifically the NEN 1010. NEN 1010 is the Dutch standard for safe low-voltage electrical installations. It defines the legal and technical requirements to ensure that all electrical work — including solar installations — is carried out safely and reliably. At OptimaSolar, we follow the NEN 1010 guidelines for every installation, giving you peace of mind that your system is not only efficient but also safe.

Installing Solar Panels on an Older Fuse Box

It’s not uncommon for us to encounter older fuse boxes or outdated components during installations. However, with a solar panel system, energy is not only consumed — it is also fed back into the grid. This puts extra demand on the fuse box, making safety and compliance even more important. That’s why we at OptimaSolar always carry out a thorough inspection of the existing fuse box before installation.

Our electricians are all NEN 1010 certified, meaning they meet the highest standards for electrical safety. Some even hold a seal authorization, which allows them to legally break and replace the grid operator’s seals — a clear sign of their professionalism and expertise.
