ClickFit Evo Corrugated Roof Mounting for Solar Panels

Corrugated sheets made of fiber cement are strong, low-maintenance, and fire-resistant. Installing solar panels on a corrugated roof is no problem for OptimaSolar. Special mounting systems have been developed specifically for this type of roof, and today’s solutions are well adapted to its characteristics. There are two main methods for mounting solar panels on corrugated sheets, each with specific considerations.

Mounting Solar Panels on Corrugated Roofs

Corrugated sheets are often found on garages, garden sheds, or stables. OptimaSolar uses the ClickFit Evo mounting system to install solar panels on corrugated roofs. We also use this brand for tile roofs, steel roofs, standing seam roofs, and pitched bitumen roofs, though with different system variations.

Mounting Solar Panels with Hanger Bolts

Mounting solar panels on corrugated sheets can be done in two ways: with hanger bolts or with mounting brackets. Both methods have their own pros and cons. Using hanger bolts allows solar panels to be mounted in both portrait and landscape orientation. This method also ensures that the load is transferred to the roof structure rather than the corrugated sheets themselves. The roof pitch can range from 5 to 60 degrees. Lastly, the existing corrugated sheet screws are replaced by special stick screws.

Mounting Solar Panels on Corrugated Sheets: Mounting Brackets

Solar panels can also be mounted on corrugated sheets using mounting brackets. This method is only suitable for type 177/51 corrugated sheets that meet EN 494 standards. With this method, panels can only be mounted in a landscape orientation. The roof pitch must be between 10 and 60 degrees. The mounting brackets are fastened to the purlins using the existing screws already in the roof. This means no new holes need to be drilled, reducing the risk of roof leaks.

Additional Materials for Mounting Solar Panels on Corrugated Sheets

In addition to hanger bolts or mounting brackets, we use mounting rails, black module clamps, and black end caps from the ClickFit Evo series. These components are also standard for other roof types, including tile and steel roofs. All the systems used by OptimaSolar have been thoroughly tested and certified, including our system for corrugated sheets.

Weight of Solar Panels and Corrugated Sheets

It’s important to determine how much weight your roof structure can support. Especially in the agricultural sector, we sometimes recommend conducting a structural load calculation. Roof reinforcement may be necessary due to additional loads from the mounting system, wind gusts, and snow accumulation. The mounting brackets or hanger bolts are fixed directly into the roof structure (purlins), not the corrugated sheets themselves—as the sheets alone are not designed to bear the system’s load.

Ventilation and Purlin Spacing

The spacing between the purlins helps determine whether the corrugated sheet follows standard sizing. Purlins also play an essential role in ventilation, allowing heat to dissipate from the back of the solar panels. This improves performance by helping the panels stay cooler during operation.

Mounting Solar Panels on Corrugated Sheets Containing Asbestos

One major downside of corrugated sheets is the risk of asbestos. Mounting solar panels on asbestos-containing corrugated roofs is not possible. This is because drilling is required to install the mounting system, and that releases hazardous asbestos dust into the air—posing serious health risks to installers and the surrounding area. In addition, high-speed power tools are not legally permitted on asbestos roofs, and even standard drills fall under this restriction.

Corrugated Roofs with Translucent Sheets

Some corrugated roofs, especially in stables, contain translucent sheets to let in light. These sheets are weaker and can be difficult to identify during installation. For safety, we take extra precautions. During installation, we place concrete mesh or wooden boards over the translucent sections to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment for our installers.
