This reduces solar output during peak moments to prevent grid overload. But there is an alternative.

Curtailing solar panels is in many cases a better solution than completely shutting down an installation on a regular basis. Frequent shutdowns are not beneficial for the lifespan of an inverter. However, it still feels wasteful to reduce solar production, especially while net metering is still in place.
