The use of home batteries already offers many benefits, and even more in the future. One thing is certain: the netting scheme will disappear in 2027. The use of a home battery combined with a dynamic energy contract will then become the new standard. This is managed by an Energy Management System (EMS). As a result, the electricity grid is relieved, and maximum efficiency is achieved with the solar energy system.
An Energy Management System helps manage and optimize energy consumption. Such a system includes a microcomputer that controls the inverter, home battery, charging station, heat pump, and air conditioner. The system can operate based on data provided from the dynamic energy contract. Even without solar panels, smart use of our EMS system and a home battery can still yield benefits. Of course, it’s even more advantageous if solar panels are already in place!
For instance, the home battery is discharged during high-cost hours, the car is charged during low-cost hours, and even the solar panels are (partially) turned off during negative rate periods. Overall, an EMS ensures less wasted energy and maximizes direct consumption. On average, this is currently about 30 percent. This is because the peak solar production typically occurs during the day, especially in the afternoon. With the help of an EMS, direct consumption can be increased to at least 60 percent. This way, the investment quickly pays for itself.
More and more brands are launching their own EMS systems, which is great because it allows you to control everything from the same app. There are also EMS systems that are brand-independent, allowing you to connect various devices.
